Mission
Kitchen Table Giving Circle (KTGC) is a member driven organization that provides philanthropic support to Black/African Descent Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LBTQ) women led projects and organizations that are working to improve the lives of Black/African Descent LBTQ women.
Vision Statement
To accomplish its goal, the Giving Circle envisions:
- Black/African Descent LBTQ women collectively and systematically contributing to a donor advised fund,
- Creating an opportunity, through regular meetings:
- To create a more politically informed donor base,
- To discuss why we as Black LBTQ women must give,
- For those women who want to donate, but may not know how or where to give,
- For women to learn about personal financial mastery.
3. Providing technical training for lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer women led/focused organizations.
Who We Give To
Our Donor Advised Giving Circle awards grants up to $5000 to fiscally sponsored Black/African Descent LBTQ Women led projects and organizations (http://kitchentablegivingcircle.org/grantess/).
How We Give
To join our Giving Circle and to be eligible to vote when we award grants new and members must donate a minimum of $60 to KTGC during a granting cycle (http://kitchentablegivingcircle.org/donations/). The money donated is placed in a donor advised fund with Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice.
During a grant making cycle promising projects or organizations are identified and researched. Proposals are submitted during a granting cycle. In these proposals, KTGC members state why the potential fiscally sponsored entity or project should receive a grant and what amount that grant should be. Members of KTGC vote and based the results one or more individuals receive a grant. Once the grant is received a new granting cycle begins.
Why Donor Advised Fund Account
Kitchen Table Giving Circle is a philanthropic Donor Advised Fund housed at Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice. This relationship allows individuals and organizations to make donations and received a tax deduction. These donations are later doled out in the form of grants to Black/African Descent LBTQ Women led projects and organizations. All donations are made in Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice’s name with Kitchen Table Giving Circle in the memo area.
